If you love my original Story Problems for Beginners, then this set is for you. All of the problems are Halloween themed!
These color coded story problem mats are perfect for helping beginners visualize the question asked by a story problem. The purple circle represents the student, and it contains the number of Halloween themed items that he or she has (according to the story problem). The green circle represents the other child named in the story problem, and it contains the number of items that he or she has (according to the story problem). The orange circle represents the total number of items that both children have. This circle is empty and children can either write in the number or use the included Halloween shapes to count out the total number of items.
Each segment of the story problem is written in corresponding colors so that the students can visually see which parts of the sentence belong to which circles. For example “You have 1 jack-o-lantern” is written in purple, so the student knows that he or she has one jack-o-lantern, and can then see one jack-o-lantern in the purple circle.
This set also includes mats that have empty purple, green, and orange circles, along with Halloween shapes that can be cut out, so that students can count out each part of the story problem. These could also be used for additional math practice, and the children could make up their own story problems.
