Whole class journaling is a great way to get students writing creatively and working cooperatively!
My story strings includes cover page with student friendly directions and 25 creative writing prompts ready to paste into a class notebook. My students love writing story strings during centers while I'm working with a guided reading group. They also make a great fast finisher item.
Simply cut out the prompts and cover page, paste them in a notebook, and let those creative minds start writing. It is fun to see the twists and turns a story will take when the entire class is contributing to a story.
How it works: Give each student a prompt, set a timer, and let them write. When the timer goes off, have them pass their paper to a neighbor. Students read the entire story, then start adding onto it while keeping in mind what has already been written. It is great reading and writing practice that students love!
