This unit is all about story structure, more specifically beginning, middle, end, plot, problem, setting, characters and solution. All these are taught and practiced through a fun theme of a television news show, The BME Show! (BME=Beginning, Middle, End)
Students take roles of the camera person (B) who's the first on the scene, the reporter that tells the problem (M) and the anchor person that gives the final report on the news show (E). Through various news show related activities, students will begin to make a connection between what the BME is in a story and learn to write it themselves.
There are whole group activities, printables, interactive notebook foldables, anchor charts, and even a mini-news show, puppet stage, complete with all the characters listed above. Students can practice telling the BME with the finger puppets and they'll have so much fun learning how to retell and sequence also! There are also 3 other craftivities included!
