StoryTellers is an interactive oral storytelling and retelling experience for ages 3-6 years. It focuses on children actively participating in the learning process through total body participation. Children will meaningfully learn to identifying the six elements of the story and use this important formula to retell stories in an organized format.
Research indicates that learning the elements of the story formula early will increase children's comprehension, expression and ability to write stories throughout elementary school.
The last slide of each story details the elements of the story, accompanying cues, and completion prompts for each important element. It is handy to print it out and have it available for teachers and parents during small to large group instruction.
Stories can be told and retold on a computer screen, interactive whiteboard, or printed on card stock and revealed with each element picture serving as a natural reward. StoryTellers can be used for one-on-one therapy, pairs, small group, or large group intervention. They can be practiced with parents, volunteers, teaching assistants, teachers, specialists, and therapists. StoryTellers have been successfully used with children with and without special needs, with varying levels of developmental abilities.
StoryTellers was co-developed by speech-language pathologists Kelly Vess and Elisa De Luca.
There are a total of 25 engaging stories. Five stories are in each of the following themes for weekly, year-round use: 1) All About Me; 2) Family & Friends; 3) Spring & Summer; 4) Fall; and 5) Winter. We hope that you are able to enjoy every story!
