Handing a student a blank piece of paper and expecting them to fill it may not be the best way to build writing skills. Students need a framework and a fun way to express themselves. Storyboards are what scriptwriters use (see my Becoming a Movie Critic Lessons) when creating films and play. Use the left side to draw a quick sketch and add text details on the right. This template prepares emerging writers for plot elements by identifying them alongside their illustration. Our storyboard organizer is simple enough for kindergarteners but also appropriate for students up to 5th grade.
