Description
This engaging activity is a great way for students to practice their problem solving skills in a highly collaborative way. Students are "stranded in space" and are asked to rank survival items based on their importance/necessity. This activity was a HUGE hit in my 5th grade classroom and students loved working in teams to create their lists. The items chosen illicit in depth discussions among students as they each had a different idea of what items were most important for survival. This activity can be used as a beginning of the year activity, icebreaker, time filler, end of the year activity, fun science related activity, and is even a great addition to your emergency sub plans.
