Shirley Disseler's Strategies and Activities for Common Core Math, Grades 3–5, Part 1, is a comprehensive two-book series containing a complete program to help you teach your students to master Common Core Mathematics Standards in grades 3 – 5. By learning from the activities in these guides, your students will develop a solid understanding of math concepts, procedural skill and fluency, and be able to apply math in their everyday lives.
PART 1 INCLUDES
• Operations & Algebraic Thinking
• Number & Operations in Base Ten
• Number & Operation—Fractions
PART 2 INCLUDES
• Measurement & Data
• Mathematical Practices Across the Common Core
Each chapter focuses on one Common Core math domain for grades 3 – 5 and includes dozens of new activities that teachers can use to align their math instruction with the Common Core Standards for Mathematics. The last chapter helps synthesize students’ mathematical learning through puzzler-type activities that can also be used as enrichment.
The activities include a list of materials needed along with a step-by-step procedure for teaching. Most activities are designed to work in a group setting to create more opportunities for students to discuss the “why” behind the mathematics. Game boards, activity cards, recording sheets, and assessment materials are all included.
The complete program (Parts 1 and 2) gives strategies and activities for teaching every Common Core Standard for Mathematics in grades 3 – 5.
