Students will examine different ways to solve equations with fractional coefficients, including whether to multiply by the reciprocal or divide by a fraction. If your students struggle to solve equations with fractions, these worked out examples may help them....all while you are implementing the Standards for Mathematical Practice.
A second activity focuses on solving equations with the variable as part of a fraction. Both notes activities have two versions....one version with just the work to look over, and one with "thought bubbles" on some of the work to help students think about important questions to consider in understanding the work.
Each notes page is accompanied with a page of practice problems, which could be used for guided practice in class or as a homework assignment.
