This lesson will provide students with the opportunity to take part in an interactive, cooperative learning experience integrating technology and mathematics. Students will apply their knowledge of multiplication, addition, and skip counting to find the multiples of a given number.
Students will be able to calculate multiples of a whole number.
The teacher will introduce the word "multiple" and ask students to associate this word with a word they already know. Students will recognize that multiple sounds similar to multiply or multiplication. The teacher will then lead students to recognize that when two whole numbers are multiplied the product is larger than the original numbers. Students will then be able to determine that multiples are greater than or equal to the original whole number.
The teacher will then provide students will three strategies to determine the multiples of a number. These strategies will include multiplication, repeated addition, and the use of a hundreds chart.
Students can play "Rolling Multiples" as a follow up activity. (See my other products.)
