Strategy cards are a quick way to remind students of a strategy that they can use when they are struggling with the task at hand.
The strategies noted on the enclosed strategy cards can be used with students that need to calm down due to frustration, anxiety, or excitement. In addition, many of the strategies also work to help students regain focus or extend their attention.
Each strategy needs to be explicitly taught and students should select those strategies that they feel work best for them. Once strategies have been taught and practiced, students can keep the cards in their desk as a reference, or they can be placed on a strategy ring and housed in a central location in the room. The strategies can be taught on an individual basis or to the entire class.
