This lab is a field trip lab that can be used for several disciplines including geology and physics. It uses basic concepts of flow in a stream to better understand a stream profile. Students are asked to wade in the water to get an idea of velocity, area, and depth of a stream cross section so that they can later describe the stream discharge. It also has a section that asks students to measure the bedload, or the clasts on the bottom of the river to estimate the flow needed to lift these particles. It is an excellent lab for a cheap field trip.
