Usually the term environment is misused in the classroom to mean exclusively rural settings, forests, lakes, etc. But the word is actually value-free. Times Square in New York, the Covered Bazaar in Istanbul and the Champs-Elysees are just as much “environments” as the Grand Canyon, the Mariannas Trench or the Black Forest. This Model is intended to help students in urban areas see their cities as environments by focusing on streets.
The model contains Teacher information, generalizations and objectives. There is also a two page Student Activity sheet for use in by students as part of their investigation.
