This activity will help building a foundation of strip diagrams which will ultimately will help lead into TEK 4.5A (R): Represent multi-step problems involving the four operations with whole numbers using strip diagrams and equations with a letter standing for the unknown quantity (which is a NEW math TEKS).
Directions: Students will take turns rolling the die. They will write down the factors from the die in the spaces provided. Afterwards, they will draw the strip diagram. The player with the biggest product wins the round.
Use this activity to supplement to any of your beginning multiplication lessons. This is a great building block to help students' 'conceptual' understanding of multiplication. "Strip diagrams" are another way to show multiplication!
