Abigail Ferguson's lesson on structure and elements of fictional and nonfictional narratives the second part focuses on specific similarities and differences between the structures. Whereas the first bundled lesson was an introductory and focused on writing narratives and elements of plot structure, this second part pays specific attention to voice, point of view and diction. The lesson helps students analyze these elements with a focus on poems, articles and editorials centered around the same theme: storms. There is a PowerPoint discussion piece that engages the students, an assignment which has them draw an inspired piece from a Dickinson poem and then write a nonfictional or fictional narrative using the structure elements analyzed through the PowerPoint discussion and an extension lesson.
