If you have ever led a class discussion that ends up being between you and one or two other students this tool may come in handy. Using Socratic questioning with these cards helps students be in charge of the discussion.
Here's how it works:
Each student gets a set of the four different cards. The "?" card is used to ask questions and can be used as many times as the student would like. The other three cards (I think..., I feel..., I know...) can each only be used once.
You will quickly see that the discussion will become student led and those who usually dominate the discussion will quickly be left with only the "?" card and others will have a chance to participate.
In the past I have awarded points for the discussion (3 pts for the I think/I feel/I know cards and 1 pt each time the "?" card is used) My students have enjoyed using the cards and love seeing that they are in charge of the discussion.
