This is a ready-to-go seminar for students who know how to participate in a Socratic Seminar. A Socratic seminar is a student-led discussion. Students sit in a circle and share their ideas for each question, ideally building on each other and coming to new and exciting conclusions. If you feel your students are ready for a seminar, try this one with them!
This is an 8 question seminar is for struggling readers/writers who have just finished reading Terry Trueman’s Stuck in Neutral. My struggling readers/writers always have trouble supporting their ideas with text, so this seminar has a graphic organizer for each question that prompts students to find examples for their ideas.
This seminar includes an “A” group and a “B” group so that you can create two seminar groups if you have a giant class.
This seminar includes a step-by-step guide about how to use this activity in the classroom, a section for personal goal setting, questions for two groups, reflection questions, a rubric, and a note-taking sheet for the teacher.
