Since students work at different speeds, we'll always have some kids in our class who need help "catching up." This bold graphic makes a great cover sheet for a folder or envelope in which students can store their unfinished assignments.
I like to use large mailer envelopes, laminate them (then slit them open with a craft knife) and Velcro them to the side of students' desks. That way I can see at a glance how much unfinished work is piling up for a student, and help them prioritize.
I even keep a "Ketchup Folder" Velcroed to my own desk, filled with unfinished students' tests. That way students can do their practice work first, during their own down time, but I can make sure conditions are right for taking a test before allowing them to continue those.
