First, have each student pick out a book that is at their ”just right” level.
I usually have all my students pick books that are all in the same fiction genre, but you can do whatever works best for your students.
Next, students fill out the ”Reading Progress” chart as they start reading their book.
You can dictate if you want them to fill it out by each chapter they read, each day, or a certain allotment of pages.
Then, once students are done reading their books. Then they can begin working on their projects. I have my class do 3 projects, one in each column. This allows students to show their knowledge of the book many different ways.
Last, once your students are finished, I take a speaking and listening grade when they present to the class. I usually have them pick their favorite project to present to the class. Use the rubric to give your students feedback for how they did.
All book projects relate back to 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade common core reading standards.
There are paper/pencil, tech-based, and editable options.
