*You must have access to Google Drive to use these files*
We've all used monthly newsletters created by teachers to send home to families. This package is a 21st century spin on that age-old idea!
With these templates, STUDENTS are creating their own personal newsletter to send home to parents and families. It incorporates technology AND promotes self reflection! Your parents won't toss this newsletter aside because their kids will be eager to share. Your school to home connection will be much stronger thanks to this tool!
Each template has a monthly theme, and they are set up for students to use. Every month (September - June) gives students different prompts with ideas for what to write about. Students only need to know how to double click to change the text, but there are also additional ideas for adding images or changing the look of the newsletter if kids want to take it to the next level. Every part of the newsletter is editable, so you or your students can change as much as needed or keep it all!
Teachers, you do not need to have extensive knowledge of Google Drawing to use these newsletters. You and your students do need access to Google Drive, which already has Google Drawing ready to go. You need a basic knowledge of how to share files. Everything else is in the directions! Included is a set of student directions as well as a set of teacher directions.
Here’s what I love about Student Reflection Newsletters:
-Created by students, promotes student-family-school connection
-Involves student choice
-Requires students to self-assess their efforts
-Helps students set and track goals
-Involves the family with interactive quizzes and changing topics rather
than simply restating the month’s events
-Students practice using Google Drawing and templates
-Students love technology! They will probably find ways to improve
these newsletters that we haven’t thought of yet.
Some topics covered in the newsletters:
-Topics I’m confident with/need more practice with
-Creation of word problems
-Sharing of websites
-Tracking reading levels
-Favorite lines from writing pieces
-Reflect on writing
-Reflect on topics
-Create “trivia” quizzes for family members to answer

You will download a PDF with teacher directions and a link to the product. You must have a Google account to access this link. Once you click the link, you will add the files to your own Drive where they will be stored until you're ready to use them with students.
If you're familiar with Google Classroom, I would highly recommend setting up a classroom just for these files. You could attach each month's file to an assignment and make a copy for each student to edit.
