This assignment has your students creating their own Declaration of Independence, but not from England, instead they are freeing themselves from school.
Students will create a document that includes a preamble, statement of rights, list of grievances, and declaration of independence, just like the colonists. Although, this document will be saying why they should be free from the school, what rights all students should have, and list off what they are unhappy about at school.
This assignment is meant to be a fun way for students to learn about the parts of the Declaration of Independence. The assignment sheet explains the requirements for each section and there is a rubric included for easy grading.
