Description
The new AP English Language scoring rubrics for the three free response exam questions are—by nature of the analytic beast—long. No teacher wants to attach three pages of rubrics to each essay, so I turned each rubric into a one-page matrix. I also changed some of the teacher-ese into student-friendly language.
Suggestions for Use:
◈Print one for each essay, attach, and highlight relevant elements. Color and grayscale versions are included.
◈Have students grapple with each original rubric and attempt to put it in language they would use. Compare their work to these documents.
◈Require that students evaluate their own essays using these rubrics.
◈Create posters and have them up while students are writing in class.
◈Give all three rubrics out and ask students to keep them as anchor charts in page protectors in their binders.
