Because this rubric is written in student-friendly language, it can be used as a teaching tool throughout a unit, or as a support for struggling writers as they draft DBQ responses. Students can self-assess on the rubric before turning in their final piece, use it for revisions, and ensure that their work meets standard. Then, teachers can provide feedback on the very same rubric!I even had students cut it up into strips so they could focus on one portion of the rubric at a time.
This resource was originally developed for a 7th grade US History class, but can be adapted for any level of social studies or history course.
