Why you need this product:
This product will help your students create goals and see how each goal builds towards life success. Use this goal organizer to discuss in depth what success in life means and how a person can achieve success. It is a process and something to work towards. Each step in this goal staircase represents a level of progression towards life success. Creating goals this way helps students look at the big picture and keeps them pushing forward in the classroom. Included is a color and black and white version.
How I use this in my classroom:
I have this as a slide on our PDSA smart board. We fill in a class wide staircase and print it for our PDSA board in class. Then we discuss each step while students fill in their own staircase and keep it in their data folders. For the upper levels of the staircase we look up careers and colleges and I create a big collage of pictures on the smart board to help inspire. It is amazing how many of my 4th graders genuinely felt that having a house and a good career just poof and happen one day. There were many too that believed some people just will not get those things. After we discussed the progression of the goals and the process a person must complete through higher education and hard work the students really made a change in their thinking about Success. They realized success is attainable and hard work throughout ones life gets you there.
I have also taught Kindergarten and this same tool can be used in those early grades. Students at any age need to understand that everything they do in school or the choices they make can further them on a path of success. My kinders drew pictures of what success was. They had adorable houses with families and different career outfits on their stick figure self to show what they wanted in life.
