These grouping cards were sadly "lost" in 2015 after an unexpected hard-drive crash, but I've recently restored the set using the multiple back-ups I had created over the years. I'm 98.5% confident the set is just as it was before it was "lost;" however, if you purchase these and find anything missing or not working correctly, contact me immediately (firstname.lastname@example.org
) so that I can rectify the problem.
I believe in designing instruction that requires my students to work as a small group to solve problems and make discoveries; it's part of the student-centered environment I strive to create. These grouping cards are a resource I created to help me move my kids into random groups quickly and provide a meaningful transitional activity before I teach the actual lesson for the day. You can read in great detail about these cards complement my grouping philosophy at my website's STUDENT GROUPING RESOURCE PAGE
In short (if you don't want to read my really long explanation of these cards at the link in the above paragraph), these cards accommodate student groups from 16-32. Each card set and its accompanying PowerPoint of 6-8 transitional activities are unique to the other sets of cards, so in essence you are purchasing 17 different sets of cards with over 125 different transitional activities. At the beginning of class, after you've counted the number of students present that day, you hand them all a random card from the appropriate set of cards. When it's time to move to their learning groups, the PowerPoint that accompanies each set of cards explains to students where to move, and then a 5-10 minute transitional activity is provided for the group to complete together. The focus for each transitional activities is either grammar or vocabulary knowledge. As soon as students complete the transitional activity, the teacher moves on to his/her actual lesson for the day. Through repeated use, your students will absolutely pick up new vocabulary and grammar skills.
Be sure to look over the PREVIEW materials before ordering the entire set! The PREVIEW shows you how the 29-student card set works, and you will see how thorough and how many different activities comes with just one set of the cards.
Please post questions about this product before purchasing. We plan to expand the set of cards to eventually accommodate groups of 10-36 students, and if you buy the set now, you will receive updates for free as soon as the new sets are built and edited.
