Parent-Teacher Conference season is just around the corner, and it can be an exciting, helpful, and stressful time. As teachers, we hope to maximize the effectiveness of these conferences with hopes that it could be a turning point for some of our students. Student-led conferences have been on the rise, and some schools are putting this into practice. Student-led conferences may seem overwhelming at first, but with this straightforward and practical guide, you will hopefully be more prepared and excited to give it a try!
In this document, you will find:
• Student-Led Conference FAQs
• Student-Led Conference Checklist
• A Sample Parent Letter
• Student Handout and Reflection Sheet
Note: This guide is designed for secondary students and has been used successfully with sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students. I am sure many elements of this can be implemented with those in upper elementary grades, but some portions may be more advanced for the elementary level.
