The Student-Led Parent Conferences ebook describes the conferences that my teaching partner and I introduced at our school many years ago and which have grown in popularity in our school. They are held in all classrooms 2 or 3 times a year. These conferences have proved popular elsewhere in our school district and across Canada and the US. This 75-page ebook is an update and revision of the book I wrote that was published by Scholastic, which sold many thousands of copies. Included in the book are complete descriptions of how we set up the conferences and what activities might be organized at the different learning centers where students take their parents during the conference . Included in the book are a variety of forms that can be photocopied or adapted, sample letters to send home to explain the program, and some samples of conference program forms that teachers can use or will inspire them to design their own to fit their own teaching styles.
By teaching students how to show their parents their work and discuss both how and what they have been learning in the different curriculum areas, students grow in self-confidence. Parents are impressed by how much their children know about their own development and their understanding of what they need to do to grow in skills and knowledge. They are also impressed by how much learning is taking place in the classroom.
