Student-Led Parent Conferences are made easy with this packet that includes an instruction sheet and two handouts. These handouts help students of any age evaluate their performance during a specific grading period (unit, quarter, semester, year) and verbally articulate the information in a thoughtful way to their parents/guardians. Conference time actually becomes less stressful for the teacher and the students when the students lead the process.
This method can be done during a traditional parent conference, portfolio sharing, or a totally student-led conference style. This allows the student to take ownership of his/her performance, both in successes and in mistakes, which then opens up dialogue with his/her parents/guardians. The teacher does more facilitating instead of doing most of the talking during the conference.
Students will have an opportunity to reflect and prepare themselves before the conference, in writing, using the Talking Points Preparation form, and these prep forms can be used by the students to help them during the conference to remember what they want to say. In addition, the Talking Points Guide is available at conference time to help clue the students.
For use in any grade level, in any subject.
