The “Write and Reach Literacy Goals” chart, “Literacy Behaviors for Goals”, and “Student Reading and Writing Goals” sheets are appropriate for teaching students to write literacy goals, their importance, how to achieve goals, and the rewards from achieving them, in grades 3rd-6th and beyond. With scaffolding and transcribing, students in 1st and 2nd grade can write individual literacy goals too.
The selected literacy behavior goal strategies can be a lesson focus. The strategies are to be modeled, emphasized during group and individual text reading and writing, and included in individual student goals along with how goals will be achieved and when goals will be achieved. The literacy behavior strategies can also be utilized when reading any text in any subject and in writing across the curriculum.
With implementation of goal setting and effective reading and writing strategies, watch your students’ reading and writing success, mastery of Common Core Standards, desire to set and achieve literacy goals, and ownership of learning improve!
Student literacy goal winner certificates and bulletin board literacy goal ribbons are included to recognize learners reaching their individual literacy goals. Blue ribbon bulletin board headings are provided, for placement above ribbons displayed in the classroom.
