PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

I use this lesson in my Personal Finance class. This product contains a PowerPoint Presentation, internet research activity (I usually have my students complete it with a partner), and research writing prompt with rubric for grading. Students will use their class notes (from the PPT) and research from the Internet to compare and contrast the advantages and disadvantages of various college payment options. Students then research various viewpoints of student loans and write an essay on their findings. I also have a public Kahoot game that corresponds with the material that can be played at: https://play.kahoot.it/#/k/bf8313fa-2621-4817-b4d4-40374569c259

The objectives for the lesson are:
o Identify when various loan types are used.
o Describe how to effectively manage student loan debt.
o Explain different student loan repayment options & obligations after graduation.
o Evaluate the use of student loans and the various viewpoints associated.

Topics covered in the PPT include:
FAFSA
Federal Pell Grant
Federal Studnet Loans: Subsidized, Unsubsidized, Plus Loans, Perkins Loans
Private Student Loans
Repayment Tips/Options
Consolidation, Deferment, Forbearance
3 Scenarios for dealing with student loans

If the research paper is to be done all in class, this lesson takes approximately 2-3 days.
