Get ready, you are going to love these!
You can choose to print in color or black & white. I think everything looks better in color, but let’s face it, color ink for a class set is not always an option. I usually print these in black and white and have the students color it in. It’s a nice independent filler to have the first week of school while you are assessing your new students. You can also use it as an informal assessment. (Ask them to color the tens on the hundreds chart, or find the picture of the short o sound etc…) You are going to want to laminate these! Some years I’ve sent these through the laminator twice so that they really last throughout the year. My students use them everyday, so pulling them in and out of their desk can wear them out.
I use one side for phonics and language and the other for math. That way, if you’re giving a spelling assessment, the students can use the math side on the inside (with the language side facing out) and vice versa for math or other assessments. You know that there will always be little wandering eyes, but this has worked quite well over the years for me. Take a look at the pictures on the next page to see how I arrange it all.
