Product Description

Representing historical events through art functions to help students make deeper and more meaningful connections with history. This learning lab contains important planning sequences that allows students to carefully plan their artwork, with specific prompts (in the planning stage!) that engage students with carefully considering the various historical 'aspects' of what they want to communicate through their production of art. The planning prompts are based on thinking about historical events through key historical lenses.

Due to the personal connections and meaning making that occurs during the planning stage, students end emphasizing and communicating different angles of the historical event, as certain emotions and parts of the narrative are brought into focus.

This lesson plan really facilitates the student being able to think through many their artwork, before launching into the production. The brainstorming sequences are made to truly engage and motivate students in thoughtful and careful planning. What emerges is deep and meaningful process and product, where students will have thought about and reflected on the historical event at a very deep and meaningful level.

Enjoy this creative approach to helping students develop deeper connections with history!
