Our students can look anywhere in the world and be immersed in negativity. It is our job to create a caring climate where students are able to engage in positive interactions and conversations. Allowing students to recognize each other for positive behavior is one of the first steps in creating this positive classroom environment.
With my student shoutouts, you have a choice of multiple formats. Students can create a full-page shout-out, or you may print one of the slides with two shoutouts on one page, to allow for less printing.
These shout-outs allow students to recognize classmates for kindness, setting a good example, being a friend, or "just because".
I use this in my classroom when my students participate in a "Virtue of the Week" activity. We begin our week with discussing our virtue and what it looks like in the classroom. Throughout the week, my students are given the opportunity to fill these out, place them in a box in our room, and once they have written their compliment, they mark their name off a class roster to show that they have participated in the activity. At the end of the week, our class leaders read the shout-outs in front of the class. The students recognized are brought to the front of the room and get to keep their shoutouts in a special folder. It is a great way for students to revisit their compliments and see how unique they are to the classroom community.
This is great for building classroom community and giving an extra boost to students who might need encouragement.
Let me know if there is any way I can personalize this for your classroom. As always, please contact me if the file is problematic in any way.
I hope this brings positivity and light to your classroom.
