The project is designed to help educators and administrators in establishing and managing a student stored. In creating the student store, it is important to work with students to gather their input, ideas, and buy-in regarding the project. Students become engaged in the student store process and they can apply what they are learning in classroom instruction to a real-world store. They learn real life skills such as giving change, being able to handle a cash drawer, purchasing, logistics, time management, and leadership.
My students would still have 3 days of traditional lecture, and 2 days spent running some sort of component of the store. I am currently in the process of creating “modules” for the lecture days so that students can work at their own pace and revisit areas that they may struggle in. It is the ideal learning situation is one which develops the student into an independent learner with the teacher acting as the “manager” of learning rather than as a lecturer.
The school store provides the following learning opportunities: 1. A business atmosphere where they can apply the theory and principles learned in the classroom such as completing research, merchandising, applying the forms of business operations, finance, purchasing (cost analysis), advertising, inventory control, salesmanship 2. The development of businesslike procedures and attitudes in students, along with, the development of leadership and management skills.
