This is a study guide that I created for my 6th grade English Language Arts students to use during a novel unit on "Don't Tell Anyone" by Peg Kehret. The questions encourage students to be active readers and interact with the novel as they read. I wanted my students to think more deeply about what they were reading.
The study guide is divided into sections:
- Chapter 1
- Chapter 2
- Chapters 3-5
- Chapters 6-9
- Chapters 10-12
- Chapters 13-16
- Chapter 17
In each section, students will answer questions about vocabulary (in the order in which they appear rather than alphabetical) and reading comprehension (some of which encourage students to use higher-level thinking skills), identify examples of figurative language, and/or a draw a picture representing a scene from the novel. At the end, there are also 4 extra credit options of which students are encouraged to select one.
NOTE: This novel is recommended for grades 3-7, but due to the intense nature of some scenes, I personally don't recommend it for students younger than 5th grade unless they are mature 4th graders. I would recommend this novel for grades 5 and 6, ideally.
