How can you tell if students REALLY understand the rules and expectations of your classroom? Surveying students about their understanding of classroom expectations can help to assure you that each student understands the rules of your classroom.
If several students are at a loss to articulate an expectation, it is a good indicator that you should spend some class time discussing the expectation, implement the expectation more consistently, and/or consider whether the expectation is necessary. Surveying students individually about their understanding of classroom rules and expectations can be done at any point, or multiple points, in the school year.
The attached survey has questions to assess students’ understanding of class expectations. The questions could be given to students in an online survey (such as SurveyMonkey), paper and pencil, or verbally
