This is a time capsule worksheet that students can fill out the first week of school. It is a great beginning-of-the-year activity! Each student takes home their own time capsule sheet and fills it out, including cut-outs of news articles, trends, and recent gas prices. For shoe size you could even have students trace their feet onto drawing paper; for height they could measure themselves with lengths of yarn. All of the information that the students collect is placed in individual envelopes, sealed, and stamped with a 'Do Not Open Until the Last Day of School' warning. Then, during the last week of school when they re-open the time capsules, students will be excited to see how much they've changed and grown during the school year. (You can keep the envelopes in a bottom drawer during the year). This is also a fun ice-breaker activity as it tells you a lot about your students!
