Slides 1-24 show images of different student traits. One by one, students offer a trait to match the image and a reason. Example: "She's because she wants to be an astronaut."
Type up the traits on paper strips and hand them out, numbered 1-24. Go through the slides again, and the student whose trait matches the slide speaks up using the pronoun he/she/they. This time they don't need a reason. Example: "She's ambitious."
Slides 25-50 can be a combination of teacher reading and student volunteers. The slides give vocabulary related to main classes in high school, such as math, music, science, art, etc. In math: addition, subtraction, division, multiplication, fractions, angles, geometry, problem solving, equations
The rest of the slides explain the compulsory credits in Ontario schools and the grading system, as well as extra vocabulary such as 'yearbook' and 'extra curriculars'
I use this with my adult newcomers LINC 4/5 in an theme to help them understand their children's Canadian school experience.
