This 29 page dictionary packet makes expanding a student's vocabulary meaningful, independent, and raises success in remembering new words. Students are always asking what a certain word means and this prompts them to look it up in the dictionary, record it, and make their own personal dictionary of words they learn throughout the year. The packet consists of 29 pages that replicate a dictionary. There is a page for each letter with an extra lined page when more writing space is needed. The packet also includes a page called "Vocabulary Blast!" I encouraged the students to complete a Vocabulary Blast once a month to reflect on the new words they recorded. They enjoyed looking through their recorded words and thinking about which one was their favorite. Some had funny meanings, sounded silly, or were very interesting to them. This book has really made the students aware of their expanding vocabulary and enhanced their interest in word usage. It's a great introduction to reflecting on literary elements and builds writing skills. Appropriate for 1st grade-6th.
