Ever take your time writing out comments on your students' written compositions only to have them take one look at the grade (only) and put it aside? Me too. Well, this resource helped me engage my students in reflecting on their writing and actually paying close attention to the feedback I provided on their compositions! You can also use this resource even without taking all that time to write comments (just have them use the prompt box only for ideas). This helped my students greatly make advancements in their writing, feel accomplished for achieving self-made goals, and be motivated to improve. It's simple, too! After guiding the students through how I expect them to reflect and set goals, it only takes 5 minutes or so for the students to complete this activity to reflect on their writing and set a goal for next time. Remember to have them look back at the goal they set as they are completing subsequent writing activities and keep them accountable for working to achieve their goal! It's worked like a charm for me!
