Students can edit their own work by using these rubrics throughout the year. Students look at 4 components of their writing and draw a part of a smiley face for each correct component. Once students have drawn a smiley face, they then know that their work is complete, or has been edited. Either print a copy for each writing assignment students complete, or laminate a copy for students to use repeatedly. Students can also edit each others' work by using these rubrics.
1. Rubric for student drawings: 3 colors, outline, big/3 details, on topic
2. Rubric for student drawings with labels: 3 colors, outline, big/3 details, 5 labels
3. Rubric for beginning student writing: bold picture, capital letters, punctuation, handwriting
4. Rubric for advanced student writing: spelling, on topic, capital letters, handwriting/punctuation.
