Students use response to text cards to write their own questions, summarize a story, make a prediction, or complete their part of a KWL chart during whole group reading or small group reading instruction. These response cards can be used to assess both reading comprehension and writing skills. The response cards are open ended and can be used in a variety of ways. Each card has a picture on it to relate to a topic or book. I designed these text cards to use with a summer school class using the Soar to Success Grade 4 reading series, but they could easily be incorporated into a lesson with similar topics. My students loved the cute clipart, and their favorite was to write their own questions on the text for their classmates to answer. They would also work great as exit tickets.
There are 13 blank text response cards with the followling topics. I have included additional ideas on topics that might work with the cards.
These cards correspond to the Soar to Success Grade 4 Vol. 1 stories.
