This is a daily writing activity for Kindergarten that I have used for years.
I have a student who is the leader each school day, that student gets to be the "Student of the Day" or "King/Queen of the Day".
Every student writes the student of the days name on the page provided and draws a detailed picture of that student. The "Student of the Day" gets to take the book home at the end of the day.
I do this for every student when everyone has had a turn we change from names to sentences for the next round. We do this throughout the entire year of Kindergarten changing the sight word in the sentence each time we start over.
The kids will have lots of books drawn by their classmates by the end of the year.
In all the years I've taught Kindergarten I have found that this activity builds:
1. Handwriting skills
2. Sentence structure
3. Knowledge of punctuation and capital letter at beginning of sentence
4. Spacing between words
5. Sight Word recognition
6. Sounding out words
7. Drawing people and details in a picture (something kids lack when entering Kindergarten)
The benefits are endless!
