Thank you for your interest in my “Student of the Week Time Capsule” Project. I find it is nice to recognize students throughout the year, but it can sometimes be a challenge fitting it into the school day. I love this project because it is a home project and allows students to share this special experience of reflection with their families. Students share about their life, family, and favorite things.
I usually choose a student of the week on Friday afternoon (before we leave for the weekend) and then the project is due the following Friday. This allows ample time for parents to gather pictures and decorate the box with their child. The student of the week presents his/her box in front of classmates on Friday for about 10-15 minutes. I encourage classmates to ask questions and provide comments. I use this with my 4th graders, but it would work well for all elementary grade levels. You can also choose to keep them stashed away or as a time capsule for your students to open during the last week of school. They also make a nice display in your classroom. :)
Thanks so much,
