Our kids were practically born with a video camera or camera phone in their hands, so asking them to make a video for class isn't as riveting for them anymore. However, if you give them tools to improve their camera skills, you'll really catch their attention and have them producing some high quality work!
It doesn't take long to teach kids about various shot angles and camera techniques, but this short video will make that so much easier. I've included over a dozen different camera angles and techniques -- all labeled in the video. Ideally, you should play the video and pause at each shot to discuss how the shot is created and its impact on the scene. (Hint: for any of the "dolly" shots, I stuck my video camera on the back of a rolling office chair and just pushed/pulled the chair.)
For kicks, I even added some music and I have a bit of a storyline running through, just to show my students that stories can be told very simply.
