This is a rubric and description to have students write and teach a mini lesson about a topic learned in math during the school year. As a class, you will need to brain storm with your students about topics you taught them during the school year. Allow them to pick a topic so they feel comfortable with what they are teaching. They will look for the state standard (mine is Texas) that matches their lesson and also write a learning target (referred to as an objective in some districts) to go along with their lesson. They will also create a poster to use as a visual aide while teaching. Students will write 5 assessment questions that their classmates will answer once they are done teaching their lesson to determine if their classmates understood what was taught. The second page is the template to gather their information and the suggestion to write a script for themselves prior to teaching. I do this as an in class project after our state test as a way for my students to demonstrate mastery of what we have learned through out the year. I allow my students to do this project individually or with a partner.
