A 28-page study guide developed for a junior-senior Honors class in high school. The questions focus on symbols, motifs, and themes that recur throughout the book; analyzing important or complex excerpts from the book; discussing the ethical nuances of decisions made by the characters; life lessons about parenting and survival; and vocabulary, with a special focus on McCarthy's use of strange, colloquial, or archaic terms.
The study guide also includes a two-page biography of McCarthy, which is adapted from an online article; the author of that article is given credit. There are two pre-reading pages devoted to apocalypse survive--objects students would bring, skills they would need--as well as information related to the unspoken cause of the apocalypse and the author's unique writing style.
If there are any questions about this study guide, or you would like an explanation of what we do or how we answer the questions posed, please let me know. I will be updating this study guide to incorporate more open-ended questions, tweak the vocab lists, and make it an interactive PDF.
*Note: for some reason, .doc files are re-formatted when uploaded to the site, so I only upload PDFs. If you purchase the PDF and would like a .doc version of the study guide, please contact me.
