I devised this lesson for a Basic/General level class of 12th/9th graders. At our school, Basic includes a majority of students newly out of ESL classes, and General tends to denote students who, by the end of middle school, have "learned" that they are not smart. (Tragic) There is plenty of leeway among the 15 pages to "up" the semantics and/or syntax in order to accommodate a variety of grades and levels. The four study guides are divided by chapters (1-3, 4-6, etc.), there is a MC Quiz on chapters 1-6 and a character analysis of the two brothers. I did not include a summary assignment; however, for certain classes, I suggest a very "hands-on" project. See my lessons on The Education of Little Tree or Wuthering Heights, if you would like ideas. If the previews of those novel lessons are not conclusive toward a decision, email me, and I will elaborate.
