I use Dinah Moche's popular work "Astronomy: A Self-Teaching Guide
" as a textbook for my elective high school Astronomy class. During my years of teaching Astronomy, I have prepared PowerPoint slides to accompany each chapter that I use from the book. I offered these teaching slides for free as a service to the TpT community.
I have also created study guide handouts for chapters 01-07 of Moche’s book. The study guides can serve as “guided notes” for the PowerPoint slides. They include questions, diagrams, and vocabulary for each of the lectures.
The PDF file includes student copies of each study guide, teacher keys, and links to download the original MS Word document file for each study guide.
Topics: The Starry Sky; Light & Telescopes; The Stars; The Sun; Stellar Evolution; Galaxies; The Universe
Moche's book is an excellent general overview of Astronomy, and I recommend its use as a primary teaching textbook or secondary resource. The first seven chapters of "Astronomy: A Self-Teaching Guide" provide reading material for an entire class of stellar or sidereal astronomy. Chapters eight through eleven provide reading for an entire class of solar system or planetary astronomy. The book can be obtained from Amazon or any major chain bookstore.
