This Studying Science Skills sheet is designed to be a weekly spiral review of beginning of the year 6th Grade science concepts. This review sheet contains questions that cover the following concepts: Scientific Method, Science Safety, Science Vocabulary, as well as a few questions on Light and Sound (to preview future content). The content is aligned with North Carolina Essential Standards, which are closely aligned to National Science Standards. The purpose for this skills sheet is to offer a weekly review of beginning science concepts and provide a brief preview of up-coming concepts.
This review sheet includes 25 multiple choice questions and one Constructed Response question. Although it is modeled after the format for the North Carolina Measure of Student Learning (MSL) assessment, it also closely matches the format of many other states' end of year tests. An answer key is included, as well as a rubric for scoring the Constructed Response.
This resource also contains tips for weekly management of the assignments, such as a reward system (reward punch cards and a "Life Line" student reward sheet are included), description of student guidelines, suggested grading procedures, and use of the sheet after it has been completed and graded. The questions are organized in a way that makes it easy for students to identify the main topic of the question, and also to allow the teacher to easily cut out the questions to be used in games and quick formative assessments.
This has been tested and used in two different sixth grade classrooms, with positive results. Studying Science Skills is also available in sets of five, check out the rest of my Teachers Pay Teachers products to find out more.
