Get your students hands-on with this is a laboratory activity that will enable them to study cellular respiration in lentil seeds! Tested in a Science contest the school-made respirometer that is very easy to assemble using everyday materials. My students were excited to use the respirometer to actually record data and make calculations in this biology experiment. It is aligned with NGSS Disciplinary Core Ideas LS1C and LS2B, Crosscutting Concepts: Energy and Matter and Science Practices: Scientific Knowledge is Based on Empirical Evidence.
The activity consists of a worksheet (cellular_respiration_rate) with a full description of the laboratory set-up, the educational objectives, theoretical background and step-by-step experimental procedure.
